About this copy

Volume: Issues 23–43 (21 issues) combined into a single volume.

Size: 24 cm.

Binding: A secondary, handcrafted bookbinding from the period (the 1930s).

“Płomyk” was an interwar literary and educational weekly for older children and teenagers, published by the Polish Teachers’ Union and edited at the time by Helena Radwanowa. The issues from the 1932–1933 volume feature poems, historical stories, geographical reports, and articles on science and technology. Readers often had the loose issues bound into hardcover volumes for their home and school libraries, as in this case.

Provenance: On the half-title page, there is a handwritten inscription in old-style ink reading “Wiśniewska and Zawoja.”

A bound notebook with natural discoloration on the paper. Sturdy half-cloth binding, with some soot and minor scuffs on the edges.

An item from the 19th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
