About this copy

Number of pages: 261.

Size: 22 cm.

Binding: Full leather binding from the period.

Feliks Kopera’s *The History of the Crown Treasury*, based on historical inventories, traces the history of the Polish crown regalia and the Wawel Treasury: from the coronation regalia and private treasures of Sigismund Augustus, through the difficult times of John III Sobieski, to the plundering of the jewels by the Prussians following the Third Partition. Kopera, a student of Marian Sokołowski, devoted himself to the study of Polish art and craftsmanship, and his book remains a fundamental work on Polish regalia.

Provenance: on the inside of the front cover is an ex libris reading “Ex Libris Fr. Kotuli,” indicating that it came from the collection of Franciszek Kotula (1900–1983), an ethnographer and museum curator associated with the museum in Rzeszów.

First edition, with an interesting provenance, for art historians and goldsmiths.

The block is intact; the pages have small spots typical of paper from the early 20th century. The leather binding is in very good condition, with no cracks or scuffs.

An item from the 19th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
