A collected edition of poetic translations by Antoni Edward Odyniec, a poet, diarist, and translator, and a friend of Adam Mickiewicz, with whom he traveled through Germany, Switzerland, and Italy—a journey he described in *Letters from a Journey*. Volumes I and II contain works by Walter Scott (“The Lady of the Lake,” “The Last Minstrel’s Song,” ballads); volumes III and IV feature a selection from Byron (“The Corsair,” “The Bride of Abydos,” “Mazepa,” “Heaven and Earth”), Thomas Moore (“The Fire-Worshippers,” “Peri and Paradise”), and Schiller (“The Maid of Orleans”). Odyniec sought to convey not only the content but also the tone of each poet.

Four volumes in one book.

Library stamps on the half-titles and title pages of all volumes, as well as within the text, including “Polska YMCA Kraków – Związek Młodzieży Chrześcijańskiej” on p. 222. The paper is yellowed in places. Original period half-leather binding.
