About this copy

Size: 20 cm.

Volume: 624 pp. + plates (14 plates missing).

Binding: Period half-leather with visible wear.

Aleksander Zdanowicz, a historian and educator, taught history at the Institute of the Nobility in Vilnius for nearly thirty years. “A Chronological and Historical Overview” is his best-known textbook: a history of modern states from the 5th century onward, presented chronologically, with maps, genealogical tables, and questions for students. It was published by Józef Zawadzki, the most important publisher in Vilnius at the time.

The half-title page bears the signature “A. Nowosielski.” The critic and ethnographer Antoni Jaksa-Marcinkowski (1823–1880), author of *The Ukrainian People* (1857), wrote under the pseudonym Antoni Nowosielski; however, it is not certain that this is his signature. There is a stamp on the title page and a signature on the endpaper.

Complete text (624 pp.), 14 plates missing. Signs of water damage and discoloration. Period half-leather binding with scuff marks.

An item from the 18th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
