“The King’s Assassins” is one of Wacław Gąsiorowski’s most famous novels, published under the pseudonym Wiesław Sclavus. It was written in 1904 in Paris, where the author had moved after running into trouble with Russian censorship over his novel “The Compromisers” (1901). He wrote it at a rapid pace, submitting the text for publication in installments. The novel was translated into foreign languages; the English edition, *Tragic Russia* (London, 1908), revealed the author’s real name. This is the third edition, published in Lviv by Bernard Połoniecki (1916).

On the title page, there is a stamp reading “Main Warehouse at Niemierkiewicz’s Bookstore” and some handwritten notes.

Half-leather binding with scuffs.

Item from the 18th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
