Włodzimierz Odojewski: Zasypie wszystko, zawieje… [Everything will be covered by the snow] [1973]

Odojewski’s major novel, completed in 1967 and refused by the state publisher Czytelnik; the Katyń episode was one of the main reasons it could not appear officially in communist Poland. Smuggled to the West, it was published in 1973 by Jerzy Giedroyc’s Instytut Literacki in Paris. Set in wartime in the former eastern borderlands of Poland, now in Ukraine, it follows two half-brothers fighting on opposite sides. Clean, conservation-checked copy. Bound by hand in our bindery in light brown calf: five raised bands, gilt title label, blind-tooled boards, marbled endpapers, bindery label. 11334-22-A-X
