“The Science of Peoples (Ethnology)” is a monumental work by Oskar Peschel, a German geographer and ethnologist, which was one of the most important ethnological studies of the 19th century. In it, the author presents a comprehensive synthesis of knowledge about the cultures of the world’s various societies – from research methods, classification of peoples, social structure, economy, to issues of religion, customs and traditions. Peschel also analyzes the influence of geographical, historical and economic factors on the development of human civilization.

The Polish edition of 1876, published by Spółka Wydawnicza Księgarzy in Warsaw, was translated from German and multiplied (supplemented) by Prof. Dr. T. Wisłocki. This is the first Polish edition of this work, which today is one of the most important sources for the study of the history of ethnological and anthropological sciences. The publication is highly regarded among cultural researchers, students of ethnology and anthropology and all those interested in the cultural diversity of the world.
