Alfred Bachmann: Roof in slavic folk architecture [1929].

“Roof in Slavic Folk Building” by Alfred Bachmann is a fundamental study of ethnography and folk architecture, published in 1929 by the Lviv Scientific Society. The publication is a pioneering study devoted to one of the key elements of traditional Slavic construction – the structure and form of the roof.

The author, a prominent ethnographer and researcher of folk culture, analyzes not only the technical aspects of roof constructions (rafter, rafter framing, roofing), but also their symbolism, significance in spiritual culture and regional variation throughout Slavic lands.
