The 1962 Krakow edition published by Wydawnictwo Literackie belongs to the early period of Stanislaw Mrożek’s work – one of the most important representatives of post-war literature and drama in Poland. The publishing house of Wydawnictwo Literackie in the 1960s was one of the key editorial centers, publishing artists of significant artistic and intellectual importance.

The “Rain” volume is part of Mrożek’s characteristic current of the grotesque and absurd, which in subsequent years brought the author international recognition and a permanent place in the canon of 20th century literature. Editions from the early 1960s document the stage of the formation of his creative position, preceding his emigration and the worldwide reception of his dramas.

A complete copy (150, [2] p., [1] p. of plates), preserved in very good condition. A significant collector’s value is the preservation of the original booklet cover, an integral part of the edition.

The volume was bound in a handmade bibliophilic leather binding in the bindery of the Polish Antiquarian. The classic, sturdy design of the binding ensures durability and safe storage, while giving the copy a representative character, clearly distinguishing it from standard circulation copies.

Early editions of Mrożek’s works from the 1960s, preserved in high condition and subjected to professional bibliophilic binding, remain an important segment of the collector’s market for postwar literature.
