Description

This is the first edition of a comprehensive mathematical compendium, constituting seven parts in one volume, published in 1875 by the Editorial Board of the Weekly Review in Warsaw . The publication, whose authors were M.A. Baraniecki, Mikolaj Jaxa Bykowski and Wladyslaw Gociewski, covers a complete lecture of seven branches of mathematics: arithmetic, algebra, elementary geometry, trigonometry, descriptive geometry, analytic geometry and differential and integral calculus.

The work was an ambitious attempt to create a Polish-language academic textbook and tutorial in the sciences, which were developing rapidly in the second half of the 19th century. The authors, who came from the circle of Warsaw mathematicians and educators, combined in it a theoretical lecture with practical applications, aiming to popularize mathematical knowledge among Polish society during the partition period.
