Joseph Sebastian Klauber; Johann Baptist Klauber, *Historiae Biblicae Veteris et Novi Testamenti: junioribus ad faciliorem eruditionem… in centum frugiferis foliis exhibitae*
Augustae Vindelicorum [Augsburg], 1757.
23 cm (landscape format), [1], 100 pages
A richly illustrated biblical series intended for educational purposes: one hundred full-page plates depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, arranged in narrative order and accompanied by brief explanations. This publication is part of the “picture Bible” genre, which was popular in the 18th century and used in the religious education of young people.
The engravings were created by Joseph Sebastian and Johann Baptist Klauber, members of the famous Augsburg family of engravers and publishers, whose works are among the most outstanding examples of 18th-century religious printmaking in Europe. The series was widely distributed in Catholic countries and enjoyed great popularity as a catechetical aid.
A copy in a modern leather binding. The block is complete—a full set of 100 plates with engravings; the prints are legible and in good condition. The series is complete, with no missing plates.
