A complete four-volume set of the first post-war edition of the works of Janusz Korczak (born Henryk Goldszmit, 1878 or 1879 – 1942) – one of Poland’s most prominent educators, physicians and writers, a forerunner of the struggle for children’s rights. The book was published by the Nasza Księgarnia publishing house in Warsaw in 1957-1958, during the October thaw, which allowed Korczak to return to official reading circulation. During the Stalinist period (1948-1955), his pedagogy was considered “bourgeois” and his name was removed from libraries and textbooks.
The edition was edited by Igor Newerli – Korczak’s friend and long-time popularizer of his legacy. The set includes four volumes: volume I (448 p., 1957) and volumes II, III and IV (542, 632 and 429 p., respectively, 1958). They gather Korczak’s most important pedagogical, literary and journalistic texts – from “How to Love a Child” and “Prawidła życia”, through “Bankruptcy of a Little Jack” and “King Maciuś I”, to “Diary from the Ghetto”.
Blocks of all four volumes preserved in very good condition.
