Jan Kazimierz Zieliński, a Lviv-based actor, playwright, novelist, and journalist, knew the theater world from the inside and closely observed Galician society. “Ofiary” is a social novel set in late-19th-century Galicia, published by the Jakubowski and Zadurowicz Bookstore in Lviv. Zieliński’s work, well-known in Lviv during his lifetime, has not been the subject of a comprehensive study, and the novel itself rarely appears in antiquarian bookstores.
