Description

This is the second, completely revised and enlarged edition of the fundamental geometry textbook by Henryk Grach Piotr Niewęgłowski (1807-1881) – a mathematician, engineer, publicist and educator who was educated in Warsaw and Paris. The publication was published in 1869 by two bookstores: the Paris-based K. Królikowski and the Lviv-based Karol Wild, and was rebound at the Paris-based E. Martinet Printing House.

Niewagolowski’s work, numbering XIV, [2], 780 pages, was one of the most comprehensive and modern Polish geometry textbooks of the second half of the 19th century. It covers both elementary geometry, as well as plotting and analytical geometry, and the wealth of illustrative material (woodcuts in the text) makes it not only a textbook, but also a valuable source for the history of Polish technical thought and the didactics of mathematics.
