Two volumes from Salomon Lewental’s series “Library of the Finest Works of European Literature,” bound together. Byron’s “Don Juan” (1818–1824), translated by Edward Porębowicz (1862–1937)—a Romanist and translator of *The Divine Comedy*—is a satirical poem in which adventure, love, and philosophical digressions intertwine with an ironic critique of European governments and customs. “Two Historical Tragedies” consists of “The Two Foscari” and “Marino Faliero,” dramas set in ancient Venice, translated by Feliks Jezierski (1817–1901), translator of, among other works, Goethe’s *Faust*.
