“Hellada and Roma” by Ernst Guhl and Wilhelm Koner, Berlin-based archaeologists, edited by Dr. Ryszard Engelmann, is a richly illustrated compendium of the daily life of the Greeks and Romans. It describes architecture, clothing and jewelry, vessels and weapons, games and theater, rituals and domestic life, with illustrations based on museum and archaeological artifacts. Volume I covers Greece from the Archaic period to Hellenism; Volume II covers Rome from the royal era to the decline of the Empire. Translated by Stanisław Mieczyński, an educator and classical philologist who contributed to the Orgelbrand Encyclopedia. The text contains 1,061 illustrations.
