Edward Żeligowski was exiled to Petrozavodsk and Orenburg for his involvement in the Vilnius underground movement, where he became friends with Taras Shevchenko and Zygmunt Sierakowski, who later became the leader of the January Uprising. This 1858 volume brings together two of his works: “Poems by Antoni Sowa,” lyrical and patriotic poems about the fate of the homeland and the exiles, and “Today and Yesterday,” signed under the pseudonym Onegdajski, satirical social sketches and fables with political undertones. They were published in St. Petersburg by Maurycy Wolff.

The paper is in very good condition, with no stains. The spine is clearly torn, the cover and corners are worn, and the binding has come loose and needs to be reinforced.

An item from the 18th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
