About this copy

Size: 20 x 10.5 cm.

Volume: 349; 358

Binding: original paperback

Adolf Dygasiński, who taught Jacek Malczewski in his youth, is one of the most distinctive Polish naturalists. In his short stories and novels, he depicted rural life and the lives of the poorest people, and above all, the world of animals, to which he—as one of the first Polish writers—gave a full voice. Karol Miarka published the complete set of both short story collections in Mikołów, an Upper Silesian publishing house that played an important role in Polish literature under Prussian rule.

Both volumes are in their original publisher’s covers, featuring a multicolored Art Nouveau floral ornament.

On the title pages is a purple stamp reading “K. Kaczorowski” with the numbers 643 (Series I) and 644 (Series II). The covers are in very good condition; the pages are clean, with no stains or creases.

An item from the 18th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
