Amédée Thierry, the younger brother of Augustin Thierry, belonged to the French school of historians who wrote vividly but based their work on primary sources. His *History of Attila* (first published in 1856) portrays the Hun ruler not only as the “scourge of God,” but also as a politician who imposed his will on Rome and Constantinople through a network of tributes and alliances. An important part of the work is the account by Priscus of Panion, a Byzantine diplomat who visited Attila’s court and described his wooden palace, ceremonial rites, and feasts. Published in Warsaw by “Gazeta Polska,” 1873.

On the front endpaper is a stamp reading “From the Library of S. Idzikowski” with the number 73. The gilded initials “S.I.” at the bottom of the spine indicate that the binding was made for this owner.

Damaged spine.
