“Scenes from Lithuanian Life” is a series of illustrations and short stories devoted to everyday life, customs, and landscapes of Lithuania—a land that, following the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, held a special place in the Polish Romantic imagination and in the literature of the era. Its author, Władysław Terma, is today a writer who has been almost completely forgotten.

The book was published by Jan Konstanty Żupański (1804–1883), a Poznań bookseller and publisher whose publishing house was one of the most important centers of the Polish publishing movement in the 19th century. Żupański published a total of about 600 titles, including works by Mickiewicz, Lelewel, and Kraszewski. A must-have for collectors of 19th-century Polish literature, enthusiasts of the “Kresy” region, and bibliophiles who collect publications from Żupański’s publishing house.

This copy underwent conservation treatment at the Antykwariat Polski workshop. The book block was mechanically cleaned, and the sections were re-sewn by hand, restoring the volume’s structural stability.
