“Introduction to Psychoanalysis” (“Vorlesungen zur Einführung in die Psychoanalyse,” 1917) consists of 28 lectures that Sigmund Freud delivered at the University of Vienna between 1915 and 1917 to medical students and non-medical audiences. It is his most popular and most frequently translated book, covering slips of the tongue, dreams, and the general science of neuroses. It was translated by Salomea Kempnerówna and Witold Zaniewicki, edited by Gustaw Bychowski, a pioneer of Polish psychoanalysis.

Provenance: The title page bears a stamp reading “Sociology Seminar of the University of Warsaw.”

A pre-war Polish edition with an interesting academic provenance.

A block (580 pp.) missing one of the initial sections (4 pp., presumably unnumbered introductory pages), with no damage to the main text. No binding or cover; page edges slightly frayed and creased; paper with natural discoloration.

An item from the 19th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
