Four works published in 1874 by Salomon Lewental in the “Library of the Finest Works of European Literature,” bound together. “The Kaniów Castle” by Seweryn Goszczyński (1828) is a poetic novel about the kolishchizna, a peasant uprising in Ukraine in 1768, and one of the major works of the so-called Ukrainian school. Goszczyński took part in the attack on the Belvedere on November 29, 1830. “The Life and Adventures of Faustyn Feliks at Dodosze Dodosiński” by Fryderyk Skarbek—an economist, historian, and Fryderyk Chopin’s godfather—is a satirical novel about a Sarmatian landowner. Skarbek’s second work, *Pan Starosta*, offers an ironic portrayal of society in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The collection concludes with Wilhelm Jordan’s *The Widow of Agis*, a tragedy in three acts translated by Kazimierz Kaszewski.

There is a signature on the title page. Period half-leather binding with scuff marks.
