About this copy

Volume: Issues 1–42, continuous pagination, pp. 1–664 (664 pp.).

Size: 23 cm.

Binding: Original or period half-cloth binding. Inside, the original loose paper cover (dust jacket) of issue No. 41 has been preserved.

“Płomyczek,” the younger sibling of “Płomyk,” published by the Polish Teachers’ Union, was a popular magazine for younger children during the Second Polish Republic. It was edited by Janina Porazińska, a leading figure in Polish children’s literature. The 1929 volume contains fairy tales, poems, short stories, and simple articles on local history and nature, written with the youngest readers in mind.

Provenance: On the half-title page, there is a handwritten inscription in old-style ink reading “Wiśniowska Zawoja,” the same as on the volumes of *Płomyk* from this collection. In this household, they collected periodicals for both older and younger children.

The block is intact; the pages are clean, with no tears or missing pages, and show natural discoloration. The binding is a sturdy half-cloth binding with minor scuffs on the edges.

An item from the 19th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
