Description

This is the first edition of a fundamental textbook on physics by Andrzej (Jędrzej) Radwański (1800-1860) – a chemist, physicist and educator associated with Warsaw . The publication appeared in 1837 at the Piast Printing House on Mazowiecka Street in Warsaw and is one of the most important Polish scientific works of the first half of the 19th century.

The 765-page textbook contains a comprehensive lecture on the general principles of physics, covering such phenomena as interference, hygrometry, galvanism, inertia, gravity, Archimedes’ Law, acoustics, optics and electricity . The publication is enhanced by 10 fold-out tables . The book also contains an extensive list of subscribers, which testifies to the great interest in the work and its importance for the Polish scientific culture of the time.

When creating this textbook, Radwanski combined sound theoretical knowledge with practical applications of physics. This is an extremely rare work on the antiquarian market, considered a valuable monument of Polish scientific thought of the time of the Kingdom of Poland.
