Description

This is an extremely rare and valuable catalog issued on the occasion of the 1929 Universal National Exhibition (PWK) in Poznan, commonly known as “PeWuKa” – one of the largest and most prestigious exhibition events in the history of the Second Republic of Poland . The publication was published by the Publishing House of the Council of General Landowners’ Organizations, and its printing was entrusted to the Agricultural Printing and Book Depository.

The PWK, which lasted from May 16 to September 30, 1929, brought together 112 pavilions, nearly 1,500 exhibitors and attracted 4.5 million visitors on the site of today’s Poznań International Fair. It was a demonstration of the economic and cultural potential of a reborn Poland, which wanted to showcase its achievements to the world after a decade of independence.

The catalog documents the exhibition of the Landowners’ Union Pavilion, the architectural design of which was created by S. Mieczkowski. The landed gentry, then one of the key social and economic strata, presented in it modern methods of managing agricultural estates, achievements in breeding and cultivation, as well as demands for land reform and their role in a reborn Poland. The exhibition was also an opportunity to promote the achievements of landowner organizations, which in the 1930s faced the challenges of economic crisis.

The catalog, 85 pages long, contains numerous illustrations in the text – photographs of the pavilion, exhibits and documents. The copy is numbered (3000/2466), indicating a limited edition.
