Description

A publication devoted to the work of Karl Otto Götz (1914-2017) – German painter, one of the most prominent representatives of European post-war abstraction and informel art. The artist studied in Aachen at the Werkkunstschule from 1931 to 1934, initially creating under the influence of Cubism and Bauhaus ideas, also engaged in photomontage and avant-garde film. In 1950 he joined the “Quadriga” group, which initiated the development of informel painting in Germany, becoming the leading representative of gesture painting in his country. Götz’s work is characterized by dynamic expression, spontaneity of gesture and textural experiments achieved by interfering with the paint layer with special tools. Since 1959, the artist taught at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, exerting a significant influence on subsequent generations of artists. The album focuses on the artist’s monotypes, revealing his formal explorations, the relationship between chance and control, and the development of an abstract language. Publication in German.
