Volume I “The Wreath of Slavic Poets” includes “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign,” the most important literary monument of 12th-century Old Russian literature, recounting Prince Igor Svyatoslavich’s failed campaign against the Polovtsians in 1185. The text is presented in two languages: the original and a poetic translation by Bishop Adam Stanisław Krasiński, who was in exile in Vyatka from 1863 to 1883.

A must-read for Slavicists and lovers of early East Slavic literature.

The block (171 pp.) is intact and complete. The original cloth binding requires repair: the block has come away from the cover because the original glue has dried out.
