Two Warsaw editions from 1873, both published by *Przegląd Tygodniowy*, the leading journal of the Positivists, have been bound into a single volume.

“Pediatric Nutrition” by Aloiz Bednar, a Viennese pediatrician, is a guide to infant nutrition and care, published in Polish at a time when infant mortality rates were extremely high. “Switzerland and the Swiss” by William Hepworth Dixon, a longtime editor of *The Athenaeum*, describes the political system, society, and customs of Switzerland, which the Positivists readily held up as a model. It was translated by Józef Kotarbiński, a critic and playwright who later became the director of the municipal theater in Kraków.

On the spine are the gilded initials “Z.K.” of an unidentified first owner, who had both volumes bound together. There is a signature of ownership on the first title page.

The paper is discolored in places. In good condition.
