“The Past and Historical Monuments of the Ternopil Voivodeship” is a monumental study of the countryside and history by two prominent researchers of the Eastern Borderlands – Aleksandr Czolowski and Bohdan Janusz. The publication, published by the District National Organization, is an extremely valuable compendium of knowledge about the history, culture and monuments of one of the most fascinating regions of the Second Polish Republic – the Ternopil Voivodeship.

The work contains detailed descriptions of the history of the region from the earliest times to the twentieth century, taking into account sacred and secular architecture, the urban layout of towns and the richness of the multicultural heritage (Polish, Armenian, Jewish and Ukrainian). The publication is enriched by 160 illustrations on 78 boards and a card of monuments – extremely valuable iconographic material documenting places and buildings, many of which were destroyed during World Wars I and II.

The album is an invaluable source of knowledge about the lost heritage of the Southeastern Borderlands, while at the same time being a tribute to a land whose material memory has largely not survived to our time.
