About this copy

Volume: 308 pp. + [III] pp. of table of contents and index (nos. 21–40).

Size: 23 cm.

Binding: Original or period-style half-cloth hardcover. All of the original paper front covers of the individual issues are preserved inside.

In 1936, *Płomyczek* and its sister publication *Płomyk* were going through a turbulent period. At that time, Wanda Wasilewska and Józef Czechowicz, an avant-garde poet, were associated with the magazines; they introduced modern poetry and a new graphic design to them. That same year, an issue of *Płomyk* dedicated to the Soviet Union sparked a political storm and was confiscated.

This copy still has all the paper covers from each issue, complete with color illustrations and tables of contents. Bookbinders usually removed them when binding the volumes.

The volume (over 310 pages) is intact; the pages are clean, with no tears or missing pages. The half-cloth binding is sturdy, with signs of storage: dust, minor stains, and scuffing on the edges.

An item from the 19th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
