About this copy

Volume: Volume I: 338 pp.; Volume II: 313 pp.

Size: 23 cm.

Binding: Period half-leather.

Sermons delivered by Heinrich Förster at Wrocław Cathedral. He served as its chief preacher beginning in 1837 and as Prince-Bishop of Wrocław beginning in 1853. At the First Vatican Council, he was among those opposed to the proclamation of the dogma of papal infallibility, but after its adoption, he submitted to the Church’s decision. During the Kulturkampf, a Prussian court stripped him of his office in 1875; he took refuge at Johannesberg Castle in the Austrian part of the diocese and died there in 1881.

The Polish edition was published by Ernst Günther in Leszno, a printer and bookseller who published primers, grammar books, religious books, and *Przyjaciel Ludu* in Polish.

Notes on the endpaper and brief notes on the title page of Volume I. The paper is discolored. Period half-leather binding with scuffs and a tear.

An item from the 18th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
