About this copy

Size: 18 cm.

Number of pages: 295.

Binding: Period half-leather, spine with blind embossing, cover panels lined with bookbinding paper.

Michał Bałucki was, in his day, one of the most frequently staged Polish comedy writers; “Dom otwarty” was staged in Kraków, Lviv, and Warsaw. It is a gentle satire on Kraków’s bourgeoisie: the hospitality of the title leads to social complications, visits, gossip, and marriage plans. Bałucki, a native of Kraków, viewed his social circle with good-natured irony. Volume 9 of Bałucki’s *Writings*, published by Salomon Lewental.

On the title page and several pages are the stamp of Stanisław Gorazdowski of Siedlce, as well as the former inventory number.

The paper has yellowed naturally, and the margins are soiled in places. Contemporary half-leather binding.

An item from the 18th Polish Antiquarian Book Auction.
