Teodor Ostrowski, Civil or Special Law of the Polish Nation. Volumes I–II, in 2 volumes.
Scholarum Piarum, Warsaw 1784
20 cm, [8], 364, [8] pp.; [4], 384, [4] pp.
A two-volume edition of Teodor Ostrowski’s classic treatise on civil law and the specific regulations in force in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 18th century. The work served both as an academic textbook and as a practical compendium for courts and government offices. Both volumes document the state of the law and judicial procedure immediately prior to the Partitions, making them a valuable source for legal historians, legal practitioners, and collectors of rare legal prints.
A complete set in two volumes, in its original period leather binding, preserved in good condition.
In Volume I, one of the last loose-leaf contributions.
On the endpaper is an ex-libris reading “From Władysław Siedlecki’s Collection of Polish Old Prints,” documenting that the book previously belonged to a well-known collector.
Władysław Siedlecki (20th century) was a Polish bibliophile and collector of rare books, particularly legal and historical works. This is a very rare volume.
