A comprehensive 17th-century work on the history and rules of the three branches of the Franciscan Order, based on numerous sources and compilations. It is an important source for research on the spirituality, organization, and activities of the Franciscans, as well as on their place in the ecclesiastical and social culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
A copy in its original period leather binding. In the first part, the initial pages are missing; in the second part, there are gaps in the pagination and half of a page with an unknown number is missing. The end pages are unpaginated. Signs of wear consistent with its age. On the title page and the following page, there are old ownership inscriptions in pen, indicating that the copy originated from a church library.
The Chronicles of Mark of Lisbon were widely read in medieval Europe and translated into many languages. The copy presented here is a Polish edition of this work—a practical handbook—that is rarely found today; it has survived in good condition for its age, despite the described deficiencies.
