Description

This is the first Polish edition of a biographical novel by Croatian writer Mirko Jelusich (1886-1969), dedicated to one of the greatest leaders and statesmen in the history of ancient Rome – Gaius Julius Caesar. The book was published in 1934 by the Warsaw publishing house of J. Przeworski, translated by Zofia Petersova .

Mirko Jelusich, author of widely read historical novels, creates in “Julius Caesar” an evocative portrait of a hero whose life and death changed the face of Europe forever. At the center of the story stands the figure of an ambitious and charismatic politician, brilliant strategist and literary man, author of the famous “Commentarii de bello Gallico.” The novel focuses on Rome’s watershed moment – the transition from republic to monarchy, revealing both the political intrigues and the personal drama of the title character.

The publication, translated by Zofia Petersova, is an example of the historical fiction trend popular in the interwar period. The book has 446 pages, and the edition is enriched with illustrations outside the text.
