Thomas Carlyle’s *Sartor Resartus* (“The Tailor Re-examined”) is a satirical philosophical novel: under the guise of a “philosophy of dress,” the author presents his view of the world through the character of Professor Diogenes Teufelsdröckh. It was translated by Sygurd Wiśniowski (1841–1892), a writer and traveler, author of *Ten Years in Australia*. The second title is Molière’s *Tartuffe*, a comedy about religious hypocrisy, translated by Kazimierz Zalewski, which was performed for many years on Polish stages.

There is an institutional stamp on the title page and on p. 213.
