Johannes Scherr, The Year 1848: A Historical Drama, Volumes I–II [1903]

Volume: Volume I: 471 pp.; Volume II: 387 pp. The set consists of 3 volumes (Volume I and Volume II in two parts, often referred to as Volumes I–III).

Binding: Original period half-leather bookbinding with embossing on the spine. Volume I has a tear in the leather at the top of the spine, exposing the bookbinding backing. Volume II is in good condition, with a stable spine.

Johannes Scherr (1817–1886), a German historian and journalist, personally participated in the events of 1848 in Württemberg. In *The Year 1848*, he describes the revolutions of the Spring of Nations in Paris, Vienna, Berlin, and Rome, as well as the struggles in Hungary and the Polish territories. The Polish edition was published in Warsaw in 1903, translated by H. Wernica and printed by Piotr Laskauer.

Provenance: The title page of Volume I bears a personal stamp reading “Leon Mońkowski.” On the title pages of both volumes, there is a more recent stamp reading “Ex libris. Private collection. Piotr, Emilia Borysiewicz. Warsaw-Żoliborz” with the numbers 0018 and 0019.

The binding of Volume I has some wear on the spine; the binding of Volume II is in good condition, with minor scuffs on the edges.
