“The Lowlands” (Tiefland) by Eugen d’Albert, a pianist, student of Liszt, and opera composer, had its world premiere in Prague in 1903. The libretto by Rudolf Lothar, based on the Catalan play “Terra baixa” by Àngel Guimerà, contrasts the simple life of shepherds in the mountains with the corruption of the lowlands. This is Ignacy Ziółkowski’s Polish translation of the libretto, published in Warsaw in a pocket-sized format—the same format in which librettos were sold to audiences before performances. Such prints rarely survive in good condition.

A clean copy, in very good condition.
