First Polish edition of one of the most groundbreaking works in the history of 20th century thought. “Three Treatises on Sexual Theory” by Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), first published in German in 1905, revolutionized the understanding of human psyche and sexuality. The Polish translation was published in 1924 by the International Psychoanalytic Publishing House (Leipzig-Vienna-Zurich) as the second volume of the prestigious “Polish Psychoanalytic Library” series.
The copy has 216 pages, preserved in very good condition – with the original publisher’s (cardboard) cover, which is a rarity for an object more than 100 years old. The translation was done by Dr. med. Ludwik Jekels and Dr. fil. Marjan Albinski, based on the fifth expanded German edition of 1922. Distribution in Poland was provided by Gebethner and Wolff. As a result of the destruction of the war, very few copies survived – today it is an absolute white raven on the antiquarian market.
The work, in three parts – “Sexual Deviations,” “Sexuality in the Child” and “Transformations at Adolescence.” – lectures on the foundations of psychoanalysis: the theory of psychosexual development, the Oedipus complex and the thesis on the key role of childhood in the formation of the adult personality.
