ADAM MIECZYŃSKI: A BEGINNING FARMER [1861].

Description

“The Beginning Farmer” is a fundamental agricultural handbook written by Adam Mieczynski (1828-1892), a prominent agronomist, popularizer of agricultural knowledge, founder and editor of “Gazeta Rolnicza” and encyclopedist – co-author of the entries to Orgelbrand’s 28-volume Universal Encyclopedia. The publication was published in 1861 by the J.J. Okoński Printing House in Warsaw.

The book is a practical compendium of knowledge designed for those beginning to farm. In it, Mieczynski, with his usual erudition and practical approach, discusses key issues related to tillage, animal husbandry, farm management and the latest agrotechnical methods of the 19th century. The work was part of the organic labor trend and was an extremely valuable aid to small farmers and tenant farmers in the Kingdom of Poland.

The publication is very rare on the antiquarian market – it has not been noted in most bibliographic catalogs, and individual copies belong to true white ravens. The presented copy has a signature on the pre-title page and has undergone a truly royal binding – it is an exclusive, hand-made binding in natural leather, developed by the renowned Polish Antiquarian Bindery.
