A monumental source publication compiled by Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz – constituting one of the most important 19th century collections of materials for the history of Poland. The publication includes diaries, accounts and documents taken from both manuscripts and printed matter published in various languages, supplemented by original letters of kings and prominent figures of public life.

The work is of a compilation and documentary nature – its purpose was to preserve and make available testimonies of the former Republic at a time when the Polish state did not exist on the map of Europe. The collection played an important role in maintaining historical and national consciousness in the 19th century.
