The National Institute of the National Academy of Sciences. Ossolinskis

22 cm, 216 p., 199 il., half leather binding

A detailed study of the development of sculpture in Poland during the Neoclassical and Romantic periods. The author analyzes the role of imported works and foreign artists in the Polish artistic environment, examining how the ideals of classicism and romanticism were intertwined in the sculptural realizations of that era. The book includes discussions of the most important works, biographies of the sculptors and the historical and cultural context in which Polish sculpture of the late 18th and early 19th centuries was created.

The book comes from a bibliophilic thematic sub-collection of about 500 specialized titles on Polish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries. A copy in a noble half-leather binding made in the bindery of the Polish Antiquarian.
