Description

A comprehensive selection of poems written in 1932-1945, divided into seven parts. The volume was prepared for publication by the author, proofread by the poet’s friend Jerzy Turowicz. No censorship interference was made. It was one of the first poetry volumes published in Poland after the end of World War II. After Milosz’s decision to remain in exile (1951), the volume Survival was withdrawn from public libraries. Until 1980, no works by Milosz were officially published in the country, with the exception of the Moral Treatise published in 1948 in the pages of the monthly magazine Twórczość.
“Salvage” by Czeslaw Milosz is a remarkable publication published in 1945 by Czytelnik in Warsaw. This collection of poems, created by one of the most prominent Polish poets and Nobel laureates, is a testimony to his personal struggles and reflections on war, loss and rebirth. Milosz masterfully combines emotional depth with philosophical questions in his work, which become even more relevant in the face of historical traumas. “Salvage” not only portrays the drama of man in the face of annihilation, but also the search for meaning and hope in difficult times.
The book has been elegantly bound in fine leather by the Bindery of the Polish Antiquarian, which gives it a unique look and makes it an excellent item for any collection. These types of editions, especially those from the 1940s, are rare on the antiquarian market and in such excellent condition, which significantly increases their collector value.
An investment in “Salvage” is not only the acquisition of a literary treasure, but also an opportunity to expand one’s collection with a work that combines aesthetic value with a profound cultural message. Owning hand-bound books that address key existential issues demonstrates the owner’s sensitivity to literary values and desire to explore Poland’s cultural heritage. This publication will become not only a valuable part of the collection, but also an inspiring resource for anyone who wants to understand the complexity of the human experience in the face of crises.
