The treatise Ecole de Cavalerie (The School of Horsemanship), by François Robichon de la Guériniére, was published in parts between 1729 and 1731, and as a complete work in 1733. This is one of the most important works in the history of horsemanship, which remains the basis of the classical riding school, including the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

De la Guériniére, a French master of horsemanship, received his diploma as écuyer du roi in 1715 and began working as director of the equestrian academy in Paris, a position he held for 15 years and which earned him a reputation as an instructor and horseman. This led to his appointment by the Grand écuyer of France, Prince Charles of Lorraine, as Directeur de Manège des Tuileries in 1730. He held the position of Equerry to Louis XIV until his death in 1751.

The publication presents a detailed knowledge of horse training, horse care, horse breeding and riding techniques, emphasizing the harmony between rider and horse. De la Guériniére places great emphasis on gentleness and understanding in the relationship with the horse, as well as on developing elegance and precision in riding.
