Description
Tomasz Bartmanski’s work “Ekonomija domowa, czyli przepisy tyczące się gospodarstwa wiejskiego i domowego z dodatkiem objaśń osobliwości artystycznych” is an example of 19th-century utilitarian literature, dedicated to the organization of domestic life and the running of a rural household. The publication was published in 1856 in Warsaw by the outhouse of Samuel Orgelbrand – one of the most important Polish publishers of the nineteenth century, whose activities were important for the development of domestic writing.
The book has the character of an elaborate handbook, aimed at an audience interested in the practical aspects of everyday life of the era. Studies of this type acted as compendia of utilitarian knowledge and now have source value for research into the history of customs, material culture and socio-economic realities of the 19th century.
The offered copy is preserved in 20 cm format. The volume has ownership stamps with the inscription “From the Wójcikiewicz book collection”, a clear provenance mark and confirming its existence in a historical private book collection. The presence of ownership marks increases the documentary value of the copy.
The copy was bound in a handmade leather binding, prepared in the bindery of the Polish Antiquarian. The binding was made using traditional techniques, respecting the character and chronology of the publication, ensuring durability and the proper collectible form of the volume.
