About this copy

William Butler Yeats received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923. This volume brings together three cycles of his prose: the stories of Red Hanrahan (published separately in English in 1904), “The Secret Rose” (1897) and “Rosa Alchemica” (1896). It closes with Yeats’s note of thanks to Lady Gregory.

The edition was published in 1925 by Wydawnictwo Polskie in Lwów and Poznań as volume 41 of the “Library of Nobel Laureates” series edited by Stanisław Lam. The authorised translation is by Józef Birkenmajer (1897–1939), who also wrote the preface.

A clean copy. We hand-bound the book in our bindery in black natural leather: raised bands with gilt title on the spine, blind-tooled frames on the covers, gilt edges, plain endpapers with the label of the Antykwariat Polski bindery.
