Kornel Ujejski is remembered today primarily as the author of \u201cChoral\u201d (\u201cWith the Smoke of Fires,\u201d 1846), a religious and patriotic song sung by generations. \u201cTranslations of Chopin and Beethoven\u201d reveal him as a poet who attempts to translate music into words: these are lyrical paraphrases of works by Chopin (including the \u201cFuneral March,\u201d referred to here as the \u201cFuneral March\u201d) and Beethoven (Largo, Allegretto). This second, expanded edition (1893) was prepared during the author\u2019s lifetime. The co-bound \u201cSpeeches 1863\u20131893\u201d (third, expanded edition) includes, among other things, a defense speech from the press trial in Lviv, a speech delivered at the unveiling of the monument in Rapperswil, and a eulogy at Artur Grottger\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
