The eponymous \u201coriginal\u201d views the world with ironic detachment, and his journey serves to portray the nobility and the bourgeoisie of the mid-19th century. Korzeniowski writes with a light touch and without pathos, humorously portraying salon life, social conventions, and human frailties. The first edition was published in Vilnius in 1848; later, the author published a sequel, *The New Wanderings of the Original*. This is the second edition, from J\u00f3zef Zawadzki\u2019s printing house in Vilnius.<\/p>\n<p>On the first half-title page, there is a stamp reading \u201cFrom the Library of Xawery Turski.\u201d The paper is discolored.
