Ko\u0142\u0142\u0105taj wrote *A Critical Analysis* while imprisoned by the Austrians (1794\u20131802), mainly in the fortress at Olomouc, from memory and without access to contemporary literature. In it, he addresses, among other topics, geological time, geological processes, and the influence of the geographical environment on the development of societies.
