\u201cPediatric Nutrition\u201d by Aloiz Bednar, a Viennese pediatrician, is a guide to infant nutrition and care, published in Polish at a time when infant mortality rates were extremely high. \u201cSwitzerland and the Swiss\u201d by William Hepworth Dixon, a longtime editor of *The Athenaeum*, describes the political system, society, and customs of Switzerland, which the Positivists readily held up as a model. It was translated by J\u00f3zef Kotarbi\u0144ski, a critic and playwright who later became the director of the municipal theater in Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\n
On the spine are the gilded initials \u201cZ.K.\u201d of an unidentified first owner, who had both volumes bound together. There is a signature of ownership on the first title page.<\/p>\n
The paper is discolored in places. In good condition.<\/p>\n
